Kvyat should 'have more kids!' jokes Horner after German GP”

Kvyat confirmed that he became a father on Saturday night when his partner Kelly gave birth to a daughter.

Second-placed Ferrari's German driver Sebastian Vettel (C), victor Red Bull's Dutch driver Max Verstappen (L) and third placed Toro Rosso's Russian driver Daniil Kvyat celebrate with champagne on the podium after the German Formula One Grand Prix at the Hockenheim racing circuit on July 28, 2019, in Hockenheim, southern Germany.

In a year when Pierre Gasly has struggled to consistently challenge, the Russian needed just one chance to capitalise and give junior team Toro Rosso only their second-ever Formula 1 podium.

"But life just proves that if you work hard and never give up, things are possible".

He added: "These three hard years just felt like they crashed from my shoulders, finally".

"It was a horror movie with a black comedy", said Kvyat when asked about the sensational wet German GP.

It was Kvyat's first podium since the 2016 Chinese Grand Prix, when he was driving for Red Bull.

The podium represented a true return to form for Kvyat, who has been through a rollercoaster in his F1 career. "The beginning of the race was so-so, we were always somewhere around the top 10, and I thought some points were possible today", Kvyat explained.

"It was an incredible few years in my life", he stated. "I think that's exactly what happened today". Even the race was tough for everyone, I managed to keep cool.

"Hopefully I can send a message out there that I'm ready to fight for these kind of moments on a consistent basis". This achievement is so great for us since it's 11 years since Toro Rosso's last podium with Sebastian in Monza.

"The race was insane and finally I managed to put everything together to get this podium - I'm really happy".

"In the beginning with the intermediates I couldn't get the hang of it - eventually I got going, so it's good the afternoon took so long".

Albon admitted that his complete lack of experience of racing an F1 vehicle in the rain left him unable to answer his team's crucial tyre questions when changes were planned.

Kvyat admitted that this weekend eclipses any other in his life so far, adding: "It doesn't feel like any other podium to be honest".
