David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, creators of HBO's fantasy epic Game of Thrones, have signed a multiyear production deal with Netflix.

In a joint statement, the pair said "we've had a attractive run with HBO for more than a decade and we're grateful to everyone there for always making us feel at home". We remember the same shots from the same '80s movies; we love the same books; we're excited about the same storytelling possibilities. They say they are "honored" Netflix has brought them on board.

Sources told Deadline Benioff and Weiss had signed a deal in the nine-figure region, in line with similar deals Netflix made with other show creators such as American Horror Story's Ryan Murphy and Grey's Anatomy's Shonda Rhimes.

After the deal with Netflix, Weiss, and David also praised Netflix and showing interest in upcoming Netflix projects. After accepting the deal with Netflix, the showrunners will officially be leaving HBO. Benioff and Weiss have won five Primetime Emmy awards for their work on the HBO series.

Netflix are probably hoping the duo can make the next Game of Thrones.

But explosive growth of streaming platforms has helped hitmakers like Benioff and Weiss land mega-deals, pulling in multi-million dollar figures for producers with a proven track record. Now they are on the other side of that, looking to capture the zeitgeist as many Netflix series have done.
