Maryam Nawaz remanded in NAB custody till August 21”

She was taken into custody before meeting her father at Lahore's Kot Lakhpat jail, according to Geo News.

As per the law, Maryam and Abbas will be presented before an accountability court in Lahore for remand on Friday, the press release said.

Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's daughter and PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz was detained by Pakistan's anti-corruption watchdog on Thursday.

Last month she made public a video which purportedly showed the judge who had convicted her father in a corruption case saying he was blackmailed into delivering a guilty verdict against Nawaz Sharif.

Maryam Nawaz was unable to provide the required details of foreign investment in sugar mills while she was also failed to satisfy the bureau regarding source of income for purchasing the shares.

Maryam had been given a questionnaire based on six questions in the CSM case, which she was due to answer by 3 pm (local time) on Thursday. But even before her arrival the NAB team had been waiting for her and arrested her when she got to the jail.

"They have been arrested but where they will be kept will be decided by our headquarters in Islamabad", a spokesman for the NAB in Lahore told Reuters.

The country's National Accountability Bureau (NAB) said she was being held in connection with a money laundering investigation.

She was questioned about the "suspicious" transactions related to the Chaudhry Sugar Mills (CSM) of which Maryam was one of the largest shareholders.

The arrest of the PML-N leader was mentioned by Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari during the National Assembly session earlier today.

The NAB investigation is now trying to ascertain if Maryam Nawaz and other Sharif family members are stakeholders in the Chaudhry Sugar mills.

There was also a clash between PML-N and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf lawmakers outside the Parliament following the arrest of Maryam Nawaz Sharif. Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Accountability, Shahzad Akbar, on Wednesday said the Sharif family had used Chaudhry Sugar Mills for money-laundering and illegal transfer of its shares.
