Ryder Cup golfer Thorbjorn Olesen charged with sexual assault”

Danish golfer Thorbjorn Olesen has been charged with sexual assault, being drunk on an aircraft and common assault and will appear in court on August 21, Metropolitan Police have said.

According to the Independent and the Sun, Olesen-a five-time European Tour victor and member of the 2018 Ryder Cup team-allegedly molested a woman who was asleep on a ride from Memphis to London. Olesen was also allegedly involved in a verbal altercation with other passengers, and was arrested upon his arrival at Heathrow Airport in London.

A spokesperson for the European Tour said: "Thorbjorn Olesen has been suspended from the European Tour pending the outcome of legal proceedings".

Ryder Cup-winning golfer Thorbjørn Olesen was returning from the World Golf Championship- FedEx St Jude Invitational in Memphis. The tour said it would have no further comment while the matter proceeded.

Police were waiting for the five-time European Tour victor when the aircraft landed at Heathrow.

The European Tour has suspended Ryder Cup golfer Thorbjorn Olesen pending the investigation into his arrest on charges of being drunk on an aircraft and assaulting a female passenger while she slept.

"He is due to appear at Uxbridge Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, August 21".

Olesen's attorney, Paul Morris, said in a statement released Monday that the golfer - now ranked No. 64 in the world - has "cooperated fully" with investigators, BBC reports.
