Trump has 'fanned the flames of white supremacy', says Joe Biden”

With President Donald Trump still flying from Dayton, Ohio, to El Paso, Texas, in the wake of weekend mass shootings in the two cities, former Vice President Joe Biden said on Wednesday that the president was encouraging white supremacy and violence with his divisive rhetoric. Some leaders in both cities had asked Trump not to come.

Mr Biden said Mr Trump "offers no moral leadership" and shows "no interest in unifying the nation". "I thought the speech was going to be about agriculture, but he spoke about the way it is".

Fox News reports that Biden, 76, mistakenly referred to the shootings as "the tragic events in Houston today and also in MI the day before", but later corrected himself, according to a pool report. He rarely delves deeply into his own policy proposals.

It has been an unsteady week for Democratic presidential primary frontrunner Joe Biden when it comes to onstage appearances.

Parizek says security was a major concern before the recent shootings, given the big crowds and the number of presidential candidates who visit. Biden seemingly confused Houston for El Paso and MI for OH when speaking to donors about the shootings. In a Twitter post Tuesday, Trump added he's the "least racist person".

Biden's comments came in a forceful speech on the campaign trail in Iowa.

Iowa is among the first states to vote in the Democratic nomination process. "The president of the United States gives aid and comfort to the enemies of democracy overseas, and incites the enemies of decency at home".

Mr Biden laid some of the blame at Mr Trump's doorstep. At a fundraiser on Sunday in San Diego, Biden called Trump a "significant contributor" to the rise of hate.

At an event in Washington, D.C., earlier Wednesday, another 2020 Democratic candidate, Montana Gov. Steve Bullock said of the president: "His hateful rhetoric about immigrants, communities of color, Muslims, and other minorities gives a permission structure for hate".

Trump's rhetoric about an "invasion" at the southern border, Biden argued, is aligned with "the darkest forces in our nation". After Trump tweeted his go back screed, a leading neo-Nazi website said, this is the kind of nationalism we elected him for.
