Armed man stopped in Missouri Walmart five days after El Paso shooting

Armed man stopped in Missouri Walmart five days after El Paso shooting”

Dmitriy Andreychenko, 20, was arrested after carrying a rifle and wearing body armour while walking around a Walmart in Missouri.

According to Lt. Mike Lucas of the Springfield Police Department, the man pushed a shopping cart through the store while taking video on his phone as shoppers panicked and ran.

The potential charges against Mr Andreychenko will depend on his actions while he was in the store, said Dee Wampler, a longtime Springfield defence lawyer and former Greene County prosecutor.

San Francisco-based Giffords Law Centre to Prevent Gun Violence said six states generally prohibit the open carrying of rifles and shotguns - California, Florida, Illinois, Massachusetts, Minnesota, and New Jersey - along with the District of Columbia, the law centre said.

A man in his 20s, outfitted with weapons, body armor, military-style fatigues and more than 100 rounds of ammunition, was arrested Thursday after causing a mass panic at a Walmart in Missouri. Andreychenko attempted to go out a side exit, but was stopped by an off-duty firefighter who held him at gunpoint (Missouri is an open carry state) until police could arrive.

But no shots were fired, and no one was injured, police said.

A store manager activated a fire alarm, prompting shoppers to flee, police said. It was a "really scary, risky situation", police at the scene told media, adding that they would investigate the man's social media accounts to try to determine if a threat was intended.

"I wanted to know if Walmart honoured the Second Amendment", a probable cause statement released today with the charges quoted Andreychenko as saying.

"This was a reckless act created to scare people, disrupt our business and it put our associates and customers at risk", said spokeswoman LeMia Jenkins.

He says: "His intent obviously was to cause chaos here, and he did that". A man was shot dead in the parking lot of a California Walmart that morning, while the previous day police were called to a Louisiana Walmart after two customers pulled guns on each other during an argument in the customer service line.
