Flight attendant fired for allegedly being drunk on the clock”

A flight attendant who was allegedly drunk on a United Airlines flight from Chicago to South Bend, Indiana, was arrested and charged with criminal public intoxication, the St. Joseph County Prosecutor's Office in Indiana confirmed to PEOPLE.

A flight attendant has been sacked and charged with public intoxication after working a domestic flight while drunk.

ABC News also reported that a breathalyzer test determined her blood alcohol level was at 0.204 - almost three times the legal limit to drive a vehicle, and five times over the FAA's legal limit for flight attendants.

A passenger called Aaron Scherb told ABC News that he clocked March leaning against the galley and making "slurred" security announcements.

"All the passengers seem to recognize it too".

United Airlines told the network Thursday that several passengers aboard the commuter flight had reported a flight attendant appearing to be intoxicated. Scherb said he had not accepted the offer.

March was sacked following the incident and was booked into the St. Joseph County Jail on suspicion of public intoxication.

"The Flight Attendant involved in this incident is no longer an employee of the company", an Air Wisconsin spokesperson told ABC.

Scherb spoke to ABC News about the compensation he received for the incident, saying United Airlines offered him $500 or 25,000 miles. An initial hearing is set for August 29, with the sentencing range for the charge up to six months.

But the flight was operated by Air Wisconsin, and the crew worked for the carrier.

Speaking to WISN-TV about March's arrest, Sara Nelson of the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA, Nelson said, "In the aviation industry, safety comes first, and we always take swift action to correct when there's something that's unsafe". While in early August, a United Airlines pilot faced charges in Scotland over allegedly being drunk prior to a flight to Newark.

Her blood-alcohol level was 0.204 - five times the legal limit for flight attendants, the outlet reported.
