Man drives golf cart through crowded entrance at Florida Walmart”

- Deputies say a man drove a golf cart into a Walmart in Gibsonton and attempted to run people over.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office says the incident began when Michael Hudson blocked the entrance to Walmart's liquor store with the golf cart and demanded to talk to a manager.

While deputies spoke to Hudson, the agency said he suddenly drove away and raced towards the main entrance, almost striking several pedestrians along the way.

Deputies repeatedly ordered Hudson to stop, but he continued at a high rate of speed and crashed the golf cart through the glass front doors of the main store entrance.

Hillsborough County Sheriff's investigators say they were summoned to the store near Tampa on Thursday, where they found Michael Dale Hudson blocking the liquor store entrance with his golf cart.

Hudson was arrested and transported to Tampa General Hospital, where he will receive medical attention, FOX 13 reported. He is now facing at least five charges including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, resisting arrest and criminal mischief, according to online inmate records.

The man was arrested after he crashed the cart into a cash register and some customers were treated for injuries at the scene, though none were admitted to hospital, according to local media citing police.

The Gibsonton Walmart was evacuated earlier this week because of a threat of violence. "[It was] either the exit sign or the sporting goods section to get a weapon, I didn't know", he said, adding: "It's something you would not expect".

The sheriff's office said Hudson almost struck numerous pedestrians who ran to avoid being hit. The suspect was named as Wayne Lee Padgett, 31.

"Not only did he put his own self in danger, he also put the people around him in danger and it could have been my three-year-old", said Daniels. It remains unclear if the suspect was hit with a stun gun as deputies chased. Police said those charges could change as investigators determine how many people were hit and how badly they were hurt. Especially after the mass shooting that occurred a few days ago. The cases are not linked.
