President Trump: EU-Iran talks may be hindering new deal with Iran”

French President Emmanuel Macron speaks with U.S. President Donald Trump ahead of a meeting at the Prefecture of Caen, on the sidelines of D-Day commemorations marking the 75th anniversary of the World War II Allied landings in Normandy, France, June 6, 2019.

"Iran is in serious financial trouble".

Trump has imposed crippling sanctions on Iran and sought to sink an worldwide deal for managing the country´s contested nuclear industry, but several major allies and other partners, including France, have resisted the U.S. attempt to isolate the Iranians.

In an unusually direct rebuke, French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said in a statement Friday that France speaks for itself on Iran and does not require permission from anyone to do so.

While the Europeans say they share US concerns about Iran's regional behavior and missile program, they believe pulling out of the nuclear agreement was a mistake.

In a tweet on Thursday, Trump claimed that Iranian officials want "desperately to talk to the United States, but are given mixed signals from all of those purporting to represent us, including President Macron of France".

The president also said talks between Iran and the European Union may be hindering peace in the Middle East.

Mr Macron did not invite the Iranian President Hassan Rouhani to this month's G7 summit. She added, "And it's very clear to me that the French in the run-up to the UN General Assembly are trying to have a major diplomatic [push] with both Trump and Tehran for any path out of the situation before things become really thorny in the Strait of Hormuz".

Along with the rift over nuclear issues, tensions have been rising between the West and Tehran over a series of incidents in and around the Persian Gulf.

It is true to its signature, as are the other signatories of the JCPoA, apart from the United States, and firmly asks Iran to resume compliance with its obligations. Tehran has denied any involvement. The US accused the Islamic Republic of attacking oil tankers in the Gulf and of illegally detaining British-flagged tanker the Stena Impero.

The UK has joined the U.S. in a maritime security mission in the Gulf to protect merchant vessels travelling through the Strait of Hormuz.
