Finally something good has come out of FC Barcelona's disastrous defeat to Liverpool in the Champions League semi-final.

The Defender of the Year will be picked from Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool), Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool) and Matthijs de Ligt (Ajax/Juventus).

Runners-up Tottenham Hotspur, who reached their first ever final in the competition in the 2018/19 campaign, have two representatives while the remaining five nominees hail from outside of the Premier League, including Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Goalkeepers: Alisson (Liverpool), Hugo Lloris (Tottenham), Marc-André ter Stegen (Barcelona).

The results for the same will be out on 25 August when the Champions League group stage draw for the forthcoming season will also be announced.

Shortlists were compiled from votes by the coaches of the 32 clubs that participated in the tournament proper, plus one journalist from each UEFA member association.

Midfielders: Frenkie de Jong (Ajax, now Barcelona), Christian Eriksen (Tottenham), Jordan Henderson (Liverpool).

UEFA has published the list of players voted for in each position here. The Uefa Men's Player of the Year and Uefa Women's Player of the Year accolades will be awarded on the same day.

When it comes to the Europa League, they have an award for the player of the tournament and there are two new Real Madrid players involved as Eden Hazard, Luka Jovic and Olivier Giroud have been nominated.
