Universal cancels release of 'The Hunt' after Trump tweets, mass shootings

Universal Pictures canceled the release of its upcoming thriller "The Hunt", which was slated to be released on September 27, after backlash over the film, which depicts privileged vacationers hunting "deplorables' for sport".

"The problem isn't guns. They don't know they've been chosen-for a very specific purpose-The Hunt".

The shelved film kicked off a firestorm last week after ESPN announced its decision to pull TV ads for The Hunt, a decision the network made in the wake of the deadly mass shootings in Texas, and OH that left more than 30 people dead and dozens more injured. "I think the elites are people that go after them in many cases", said Trump to reporters, referring to conservative outrage over the film. "She turns the tables on the killers, picking them off, one by one, as she makes her way toward the mysterious woman at the center of it all", the description said prior to the website being updated.

Following were two more fatal shootings: one in Dayton, Ohio on August 4, resulting in ten deaths (also including the shooter) and 27 injuries; and the El Paso, Texas shooting, which happened just 13 hours later when a gunman murdered 22 people and injured 24 others in a Walmart.

"The Hunt", starring Hilary Swank - and billed as a "satirical horror film" - told the story of liberal elitists who gleefully track and kill Trump-supporting "deplorables" kidnapped from red states and dumped in a hunting preserve. ESPN pulled an advertisement for the movie over that weekend while AMC aired an ad on August 4-the day of the Dayton, Ohio shooting.

"The movie coming is made in order to inflame and cause chaos", Trump tweeted Friday. Following that, the controversy over the movie then erupted into a maelstrom when it was revealed that the storyline will focus on elite coastal liberals rounding up Trump supporters to hunt them down like wild animals. "You talk about racism, Hollywood is racist!" "In fact, it is often the people that they so strongly oppose that are actually the Elite", he wrote on Twitter on August 9.
