The largest U.S arms retailer, which has been under pressure to change its policies on gun sales, said it took the action following the death of 31 people in mass shootings in Texas and OH, one of which took place in a Walmart store.

"Remove from the salesfloor or turn off these items immediately", reads the letter. The company insisted that its policy on selling firearms is not changing, however.

The notice went on to demand that they "turn off or unplug any video game display consoles that show a demo of violent games, specifically PlayStation and Xbox units" and "verify that no movies depicting violence are playing in Electronics".

Although some public officials, including President Donald Trump, have pointed to violent video games as a cause of the rise in gun violence, numerous studies have found no link between the games and actual violent behavior. Police in Springfield, Missouri, arrested a man Thursday after they said he walked into a Walmart there carrying two guns and wearing body armor.

The United States has had 254 mass shootings -instances of four or more people being shot in individual outbreaks - in 2019, according to the Gun Violence Archive. To some, such games normalize violence and may be a factor in the rise in mass shootings. Elizabeth Warren blasted the company in a tweet. The company has always been one of the largest gun resellers in America, and, at first, it seemed like Walmart would stand idly by and not take any action. The weapons they sell are killing their own customers and employees. It is facing pressure to stop selling firearms altogether and some of that pressure is internal.

Authorities believe Patrick Crusius, 21, wrote a racist, rambling screed that railed against mass immigration before opening fire last weekend at the El Paso Walmart.
