Google And Twitter Are Using AMD’s New Processors In Their Datacenters”

"The launch of the AMD EPYC 7002 Series Processors will enable enterprises to transform their datacenter operations at the pace of their business", said Scott Aylor, corporate vice president and general manager, Datacenter Solutions Group, AMD.

Hewlett Packard Enterprise is putting the second-generation Epyc chips into its single-socket ProLiant DL325, dual-socket DL385 and high-density Apollo 35 servers, and listed three dozen records for ...

Mellanox Technologies, a leading supplier of end-to-end smart interconnect solutions for data center servers, has reportedly announced that InfiniBand ConnectX® and Mellanox Ethernet smart adapter solutions have been optimized for delivering groundbreaking performance and scalability for the AMD EPYC™ 7002 Series processor-based compute & storage infrastructures.

HPE adds that performance and efficiency at these levels allow more workloads to run on fewer servers, reducing hardware acquisition and operational costs, as well as software costs where applications are licensed on a per processor basis.

Just recently, during a launch event for the 7nm chips, AMD announced Google and Twitter are now using EPYC Rome processors. - Microsoft announced the preview of new Azure virtual machines for general goal applications, as well as limited previews of cloud-based remote desktops and HPC workloads based on 2nd Gen AMD EPYC processors. Delivering a comprehensive, consistent feature set of I/O, memory and security features, across 8 to 64 "Zen 2" cores, the 2nd Gen AMD EPYC Processors deliver agility from a balanced set of features. Workload matching is a standard feature on HPE ProLiant.

Advanced Micro Devices (NASDQ:AMD) stock jumped almost 8% to $31.38 in Thursday's early session after the company announced the release of Epyc 2, its newest chip for data centers.

"We are extremely proud to continue our relationship with HPE, a foundational partner for AMD EPYC, with their latest platforms. Additionally, Penguin Computing is complementing the existing Altus product family with new systems specifically created to maximize the benefits of the 7002 Series Processor such as PCIe Gen 4 and is to be offered in both 21-inch Open Compute Project (OCP) systems and standard EIA 19" systems. "As we enter a new era of computing, the exascale era, we're seeing new workloads, new infrastructure, a new way of thinking, and this requires capabilities and performance like we get from our next-generation Shasta supercomputer combined with AMD EPYC processors", said Peter Ungaro, president and CEO, Cray.

EPYC processor is a processor for servers. "With the 2nd Gen AMD EPYC processors connected via our new Slingshot system interconnect, we're able to deliver the performance our customers require for the exascale era". As the first generation of systems with PCI-E 4.0 support, these A+ Servers feature a large memory footprint of up to four terabytes (4TB) per socket running fast DDR4 memory up to 3200MHz.

And Lenovo, Dell, and VMware said they'd crank out products with the Epyc chips put to use; basically, AMD is going for an Epyc win with the new chips. The latest CPU line up from AMD takes one notch higher of its Xeon rivals that still use 14nm technology. And, Intel also counts Twitter and Google among its customers. GIGABYTE's new systems will provide customers with incredible compute, I/O and bandwidth capability - created to meet the huge demand for more compute in big data analytics, HPC and cloud computing. The processors are expected to deliver up to 2X the performance-per socket and up to 4X peak FLOPS per-socket compared with AMD EPYC™ 7001 Series Processors. This server delivers the highest performance and lowest performance per dollar for a 10TB database with 64% higher QphDS throughput (Composite Query per Hour Metric) and $0.05 savings per QphDS over the previous world record holders.

The 2nd Gen AMD EPYC processor combines leadership performance, architecture and security features to meet the most demanding challenges facing the data center.

But AMD has been making inroads with its most recent chips.

At the launching event, several partners and customers joined AMD on stage to talk about the AMD EPYC Rome series and what it offers.

The Epyc CPUs are also being put to work by the Air Force Weather Agency, which will use them in a Cray Shasta system to provide weather data to the US Air Force and Army; oo-rah.
