Pep Guardiola Eyes Immediate Improvement Despite Five-Star Display at West Ham

Pep Guardiola Eyes Immediate Improvement Despite Five-Star Display at West Ham”

The Premier League champions romped to a 5-0 win over the Hammers at the London Stadium and got their league title defence off to a wonderful start.

Last season saw City pound West Ham 4-0 on the road with the Hammers keeping it a closer contest at the Etihad in a 1-0 City win. The Belgian charged forward and fed the marauding Sterling to his left by giving the England global the simplest of chances to open his account for the season.

Kevin de Bruyne set up Sterling to score through Lukasz Fabianski's legs in the 51st, minutes before Jesus had a well-worked team effort ruled out through VAR for offside. However, the VAR adjudged Sterling had been offside.

Pep Guardiola's City thumped West Ham 5-0 in the early kick-off but despite City's devastating display, the introduction of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system for the first time in the Premier League proved the big talking point. Fabianski made a fine save from Sergio Aguero, but inexplicably the penalty was ordered to be retaken and this time he sent the keeper the wrong way.

The Argentine scored before Sterling completed his hat-trick in stoppage time - the first player to do so on the opening weekend of the Premier League since Didier Drogba in 2010.

But in a worrying sign for those trying to stop Guardiola's men romping to a third straight league crown, City cruised to victory despite being far from their best before half-time. "In the first half we were sloppy in our passes, we were not precise".

"We didn't have the rhythm but that is normal in the first game".

"We came out in the second half with a high tempo, pressed well", said Kane.

That condemned Villa captain Jack Grealish to his 19th Premier League defeat in a row, the longest losing run of any player in the competition's history.

On 25 minutes, City made the breakthrough and it was a familiar goal that West Ham have been conceding all pre-seaso.

Icelandic winger Johann Berg Gudmundsson added the third on a disappointing day for Ralph Hasenhuttl's side.

Manchester City will play their first home game of the season next Saturday when they host Tottenham Hotspur. Defender Chris Mepham had put the Cherries ahead in the 62nd minute.

"After that we had a couple of chances to make it 2-1, but finally with space in the last minutes they scored their goals".

Manchester United host Chelsea today while Arsenal travel to Newcastle and Leicester take on Wolves.
