Jeffrey Epstein cause of death 'pending further information'

Jeffrey Epstein cause of death 'pending further information'”

He was removed from suicide watch six days later, on July 29, and returned to a segregated area of the prison with extra security known as the special housing unit.

News reports Epstein "was in his cell but not on suicide watch at the time of his death".

The Times spoke to the official on the condition of anonymity. He had pleaded not guilty, the Associated Press previously reported. Supposedly, Epstein was under supervision after he was found semi-conscious on the floor of his cell two weeks ago with marks on his neck. He was later pronounced dead from an apparent suicide, the BOP said.

The U.S. Attorney's Office in NY, who arrested Epstein last month, says they are still urging anyone who feels they may be a victim or have information, to come forward.

"Today, a medical examiner performed the autopsy of Jeffrey Epstein".

"This is routine practice", Sampson said in the statement.

Epstein's abrupt death cuts short a criminal prosecution that could have pulled back the curtain on the inner workings of the high-flying financier with connections to celebrities and presidents, though prosecutors have vowed to continue investigating. The Federal Bureau of Prisons and Attorney General Bill Barr said Epstein died in an "apparent suicide" while in federal custody. He says he is skeptical about the circumstances surrounding Epstein's death. Epstein had been held at the NY prison since his arrest last month on child sex trafficking and conspiracy charges. He had pleaded not guilty and was awaiting trial. He noted in a statement Saturday that the indictment against Epstein includes a conspiracy charge, suggesting others could face charges in the case.

Every 15 minutes, guards are also required to make "another check on prisoners who are on suicide watch".

"There are vacant positions at every federal prison in the country".

If you or someone you know needs help, call the U.S. Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 800-273-8255, a free and 24/7 service that can provide suicidal persons or those around them with support, information and local resources.

His death raises many questions, as Epstein was rumoured to have been on suicide watch.

A day before Epstein's apparent suicide, a federal appeals court released almost 2,000 pages of documents relating to Epstein and his former girlfriend, British socialite Ghislaine Maxwell. The records contain graphic allegations against Epstein, as well as the transcript of a 2016 deposition of Epstein in which he repeatedly refused to answer questions to avoid incriminating himself.

Giuffre, in an interview with The New York Times, said she's grateful Epstein will never harm anyone again, but is angry that there would be no chance to see him answer for his conduct. Neither officials nor Epstein's legal team would comment on whether those procedures were followed, but at least one official familiar with the episode said that they were not.

Julie K. Brown, the Herald investigative reporter whose reporting led to the case being reopened, said she was surprised at Epstein's death.

Rep. Lois Frankel (D-Fla.) on August 10 called for the House Committee on Oversight and Reform to "begin its investigation" into why Epstein got a lenient plea deal in 2008 when he was sentenced to 13 months and was allowed to work from his Palm Beach office.

U.S. Attorney General William Barr said that both the FBI and the Department of Justice's inspector general were opening investigations into Epstein's death.
