Moriya Jutanugarn leads Ladies Scottish Open

Moriya Jutanugarn leads Ladies Scottish Open”

Hur Mi-jung won the Ladies Scottish Open in North Berwick, Scotland on Sunday, ending a five-year LPGA win drought.

Her third round of 64 on Saturday followed by her final round of 67 today was the best, by some five shots, final 36-hole total of the field at the Renaissance Golf Club and her 6th place was likely a distant dream on Friday evening.

Hur Mi-jung poses with her trophy after winning the Ladies Scottish Open in North Berwick, Scotland on Sunday.

"In the first round, after I made two bogeys after one birdie, I was mad and he told me on the fourth tee box, "come on, MJ, you can win this tournament", said the victor. "Not much wind and there was no rain, but about five holes, maybe six holes to go, it started raining off and on, pretty constant". "I think that was more worse than today because we had 20-30 mile-per-hour wind that time", she recalled.

"I sort of killed my momentum on 11". I three-putted from on the green and it was pretty short.

"I didn't know that", she said after landing a £190,000 top prize for this triumph.

Her back nine of 31 didn't earn a guard of honour but it did get a guard of squeegees as the hardworking greenkeepers battled manfully to keep the water at bay.

"I didn't want to look at the scoreboards, even though there are so many on the course it's hard not to see them. So yeah, I'm happy with 11-under".

Su Oh finished as the next best of the Australians when she finished 13th, Katherine Kirk was 35th and Hannah Green 55th.

In flawless conditions for "moving day", it was Moriya who took the early initiative in the final group with three birdies in an opening nine of 33, compared to overnight leader Mi Jung Hur from Korea, who opened with eight pars and a birdie.

On a miserable day at The Renaissance, which was so wet it probably led to the Bass Rock having to undergo some damp-proofing work, the 29-year-old from Korea conjured a great, squelching surge to ease to a four shot victory and claim her third LPGA Tour title and a first since 2014.
