Trump Slams Violent Video Games, Urges Death Penalty for Mass Shooting Perpetrators”

There is no known link between violent video games and violent acts.

In an address on Monday, President Trump said "We must stop the glorification of violence in our society..."

Blaming video games distracts from the broader issues at hand.

Trump suggested several policy responses to the shootings, including cracking down on violent video games, supporting "red flag laws" which allow authorities to confiscate guns from people deemed unsafe and directing the Justice Department to propose legislation to ensure that people convicted of hate crimes or mass shootings will face the death penalty.

"We just have tremendous amount of research - at this point now we've been researching it for 21 years - that just says the exact opposite", Russell Holly, managing editor at Android Central, said of the accusations.

Rhetorically I ask: How long after the horrendous El Paso and Dayton mass shootings did it take politicians and the media to assess blame beyond the actual perpetrator (s)?

After the Parkland, Florida high school shooting a year ago, President Trump said "I'm hearing more and more people say the level of violence on video games is really shaping young people's thoughts", a position he would echo on Monday.

Walmart is removing from its stores nationwide signs, displays or videos that depict violence following a mass shooting at one of its stores in Texas, though it has not changed its policy on gun sales.

"It is too easy today for troubled youth to surround themselves with a culture that celebrates violence", said President Trump. "We must stop or substantially reduce this". Ninety seven percent of teens play video games of some type, often online with teens from other states-even other countries-building new friendships. "Yet other societies, where video games are played as avidly, do not contend with the tragic levels of violence that occur in the U.S". The 7-2 decision cited a lack of evidence tying video games to violent acts and aggression.

McCarthy was responding to Lt. Gov Patrick, a fellow Republican, who said: We've always had guns, always had evil, but I see a video game industry that teaches young people to kill'.

"In this manifesto he talks about living out his super soldier fantasy on Call of Duty", Patrick claimed, although in fact the El Paso shooter's purported manifesto tells its readers not to do that.

"The research has been done and no statistical correlation has been found", said Dr.

Following that meeting, the White House published a 90-second montage of violent video game scenes.

Aurora Bubbaloo tweeted, "I've made a lot of unbelievable friends thanks to video games". According to a study conducted by Dr. James Ivory at Virginia Tech University, media coverage of mass shootings was eight times more likely to mention video games as a potential cause for such tragedies when the shooter was white than when said person was black.
