Walmart Pulls Violent Video Game Ads (But Not Guns) From Stores”

Walmart is removing displays and signs for violent video games from its stores in the wake of shootings in recent weeks. He says the store has not removed violent video game-related marketing material and was unsure if the store had been specifically instructed to do so yet.

Walmart is making changes to the video game and hunting departments, but it's not doing anything new about guns.

As you probably know, the United States retail chain Walmart has implemented a new video game policy, according to which any advertising of violent titles will be prohibited.

If video games were the cause of all this violence then surely other places like Canada, Australia, Europe, and Japan would see a lot more violence too considering how big the video game industry is in these places.

On Thursday, USAToday reports, Walmart heads sent a memo to all stores saying it was taking "immediate action" to remove signage and displays that "contain violent themes or aggressive behavior".

The memo follows a statement from Walmart CEO Doug McMillon earlier in the week in which he vowed a "thoughtful and deliberate" response to the shootings. House told EW in regards to this matter, "We are focused on assisting our associates and their families, as well as supporting the community, as we continue a thoughtful and thorough review of our policies".

Booker endorsed an employee-led effort to get halt gun sales. Another mass shooting followed in Dayton, Ohio on August 4 that left nine people dead and 27 injured.

"Remove from the salesfloor or turn off these items immediately", the memo said, according to the AP. The company insisted that its policy on selling firearms is not changing, however.

While video games are more popular in Japan than any other country, the group noted, the Japanese Consulate in Detroit this week issued a safety alert to travelers from the country, warning that the U.S.is a "gun society" where there is "potential for gunfire incidents everywhere".

Though some politicians have claimed the modern epidemic of mass shootings is tied to increasing violence in video games, there is no known link between violent video games and violent acts. It ended the sale of assault-rifle in 2015 and also raised the minimum age for gun purchases to 21 in 2018, bowing to years of public pressure. That means there have been more instances of four or more people being shot in individual outbreaks of violence than there have been days in 2019.

The attack in El Paso was the second shooting at a Walmart in a week.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren has unveiled a comprehensive plan to reduce gun violence by enacting a suite of new restrictions on buyers, cracking down on sellers and breaking "the (National Rifle Association's) stranglehold on Congress" with anti-corruption legislation.
