Perseid Meteor Shower 2019 Peak Tonight: When And Where To Watch

Perseid Meteor Shower 2019 Peak Tonight: When And Where To Watch”

However, anytime after dark one can head outside and look up for a chance to grab a glimpse of the show.

The Perseid meteor shower 2019 is already underway, but fear not if you haven't noticed - it's the peak you want to watch out for.

In order to make the most out of the meteor shower despite the bright Moon, it would be best to view it from a very dark location with an unobstructed view of the sky.

Though the Perseids will be competing with the full moon for visibility in the night sky, experts at NASA say that those planning to watch will still be able to catch about 15 to 20 meteors per hour. According to NASA's page, the "Perseids are rich in bright meteors and fireballs", and despite the full Moon it is worth watching these.

Every July to August, Earth passes through the debris left by the comet Swift-Tuttle during its orbit.

Shooting stars are about to rain down from the heavens and illuminate the night sky as the best meteor shower of the entire year, known as the Perseids, reaches its peak.

Due to the moon, spectators this year should try to keep the moon out of their sight and look to the darkest part of the sky.

AMS reports that 50 to 75 meteors per hour at maximum are expected during Perseid.

However, the attractive meteor shower may be affected by a number of conditions. The Perseids are set to peak this year on the nights of August 12 and 13. Skip Griffith Observatory. A clear view of the night sky is key.

The Comet Swift-Tuttle measures 16 miles across and is nearly the same size as the comet which wiped out the dinosaurs. If you miss it, the Perseids are just one of many meteor showers you can enjoy each year. NASA also suggests staying up late, or waking up early throughout the nights of August 11 to 12 and August 12 to August 13.

David Moore, Editor of Astronomy Ireland magazine, said: "This has real scientific value as we only know how these meteor showers develop by members of the public counting them while they view the lovely spectacle of nature that is a meteor shower".

The Perseids get their name from the constellation Perseus, which dominates the sky in the area where the meteors appear to us here on Earth.
