With John Mallee out, could more changes be coming to Phillies' staff?

With John Mallee out, could more changes be coming to Phillies' staff?”

So the team made a move Tuesday to shake things up in the hopes of sparking a late-season run.

According to Todd Zolecki of MLB.com, Charlie Manuel, the winningest manager in franchise history, is taking over as the Philadelphia Phillies hitting coach, as they have fired John Mallee.

Manuel won 780 games while leading the Phillies to back-to-back National League pennants and five consecutive National League East titles. The Phillies were one-hit and three-hit on their recent 2-5 trip out west and they've struggled mightily with runners in scoring position in recent weeks.

Since being replaced as manager in August 2013, Manuel served in a variety of roles with the club.

Jim Salisbury tweets that additional staff changes may be forthcoming. Manager Gabe Kapler, who is under contract through next season, appears safe, though he will come under review after the season. The Phillies entered Tuesday with a team batting average of.245, which ranks 24th in Major League Baseball.

The Phillies are 60-58 for ninth in the NL, going 3-7 in their last 10 games. But really, their offense has been bad by every measure. Through Sunday they ranked in the bottom half of the National League in nearly every hitting category: ninth in runs; 10th in hits; 11th in home runs; 10th in on-base percentage; 12th in slugging; 12th in weighted on-base average; and 10th in weighted runs created plus (91).
