Walsh says he is 'strongly, strongly considering' challenging Trump in Republican primary”

Former Ohio governor John Kasich, who ran for president in the 2016 primaries and earned The New York Times" endorsement for the GOP nomination, "will head to New Hampshire next month to "take a look at things" after experiencing "an increase' in overtures this summer". That's - again, I'm not trying to be cute or coy.

"If I'm to do it, it's going to happen soon", Walsh told Politico in a Wednesday interview. But more importantly, these are not conventional times.

But those encouraging Mr. Walsh, a Tea Party conservative who served one term in the House and went from staunch Trump supporter to acerbic critic, hope he can appeal to reluctant Trump voters who are open to an alternative. His support for the President changed, he said, after Trump's press conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Helsinki, Finland, past year in which he sided with the Russian strongman over his own intelligence community's assessments of interference in the 2016 election.

Calling Trump a "horrible human being", Walsh said the president was setting a poor example for children with his divisive rhetoric.

Since the Helsinki meeting, Walsh has ramped up his public rebukes of the president, and penned an op-ed for The New York Times last week wherein he argued that "Trump needs a primary challenge".

President Donald Trump is about to get a new primary foe.

Walsh also said he thinks he can beat Trump, but added that he believes any "good challenger" could win against the President "if they make the moral case (against him)".

Currently, only former MA governor Bill Weld has officially declared he is running for the Republican nomination for president.
