BMW X5 Protection VR6 Arrives Able To Take AK-47 Bullet

BMW X5 Protection VR6 Arrives Able To Take AK-47 Bullet”

The X5 Protection VR6 utilises the 4.4 litre V8 from the X5 M50i, this means 530 hp will be available. There's also an aluminum underbody splinter shield, an armored luggage compartment and multilayered safety glass that measures 33mm (1.3 inches) for the windshield.

A special sheathing ensures the fuel tank closes automatically following an attack in order to prevent fuel spillage, while standard runflat tyres with reinforced sidewalls are also included in the package.

BMW Laser Light with Selective Beam can also be specified for the X5 Protection VR6.

BMW says the X5 Protection VR6 (here, "VR6" refers to the resistance class) is "almost identical to the production model" in terms of driving characteristics, cabin quality and design. And just to be really sure no bullets or debris makes their way inside, there are tightened seals and overlapping armor-plating, particularly within the sensitive areas of door gaps and bodywork joints, as well as the transitions between body panels and glazing. As a result, this X5 is capable of withstanding fire from an AK-47, and explosive blasts of up to 15kg from a distance of four metres.

Apart from that, there are some clever touches as well. Its naming convention indicates the level of armoured protection, which is "VR6" standard. While normal auto engines shut off automatically to prevent fire, the X5's powertrain doesn't switch off for a while. The firm has not said how much more the VR6 weighs than the standard X5. Despite the weight disadvantages of the armour, the VR6 model still manages 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds and a top speed of 210 km/h. Pedal to the metal, the SUV maxes out at 210kmph.

According to the Bavarian marque, the X5 Protection VR6 "offers private individuals and persons at risk customised protection against violent attacks, kidnapping or organised crime". Apart from that, the suspension components, steel springs, electronically-controlled dampers and the brakes have been beefed to compensate the additional stress they go through while hauling the beast. The X5 Protection's windows are 33 millimeters thick all around and can be configured to only open 10 centimeters to "enable communication with the outside world and the exchange of documents", in case you ever find yourself acting as the sharp-suited antagonist in a Mission: Impossible movie. The BMW uses high-strength steel armour plating to provide the required protection. Expect it to carry a hefty premium over the standard X5, which costs Rs 72.9 lakh to Rs 82.4 lakh (ex-showroom pan-India).
