Carli Lloyd received offer to kick in National Football League preseason game, trainer says”

We have been told many times by readers over the last week that the Falcons should reach out to her. Unfortunately, the odds are against her getting on the field. Her trainer, James Galanis, told FOX Sports on Monday that Lloyd was offered the chance to play in a preseason game, but it conflicted with a US women's national team game against Portugal. With regular holder Sam Koch taking the snap and holding, Lloyd booted a 55-yard field goal cleanly through.

Eagles kicker Jake Elliott was impressed. "If she's going to do it, she's going to do it so that she can be a success". But she did so with a five-step running start at the kick, and Galanis said part of her work would be getting accustomed to the shorter two-step approach most National Football League kickers take. She went to Eagles camp in Philadelphia-near her south Jersey home-to watch a joint practice with the Ravens and Eagles.

Longtime NFL personnel evaluator Gil Brandt, one of the masterminds behind the assembly of the Dallas Cowboys powerhouse Super Bowl teams in the 1970s, believes it won't be long before a woman is employed by an NFL team.

"I hope I can inspire girls around the world to believe in themselves and know that anything is possible when you believe in yourself", she said. The U.S Women's Soccer player actually did receive some inquiries after the video of the field goal surfaced. "That's the short-term plan that we have for it, because she's serious about it, and she wants to see if this is something that she can really do".

It would be a transcendent moment in the world of sports to see a woman play in the NFL and that's not lost on Lloyd, who is now fighting for equal pay for the Women's National team alongside her teammates. Lloyd did not name any teams that were interested in signing her. She is great at long range balls, she displayed that by scoring a goal from just past the halfway line in a World Cup final, and she is definitely in tune with the mechanics.

Take a closer look at the video of her field goal attempt. Life kicking footballs, as luxurious as it might sound, is probably the least-secure job in sports. Seven steps is closer to the run up to a kickoff. Expected to solve the team's kicking woes, Aguayo finished last in field goal percentage as a rookie. At worst, you'll get snowed under by a sea of angry humanity.

What's real is the possibility that Lloyd could find herself on a football field.

Kickers are a unique bunch. In 1978, the Atlanta Falcons signed Philadelphia bartender Tim Mazzetti to be their kicker. It's not happening this preseason, though. Sure. She clearly has the leg strength.
