Garmin releases new Fenix 6 smartwatches, featuring solar-charging”

We have not seen them in person yet, but they look nice.

Popular luxury smartwatch maker Garmin has launched a new set of watches, the Fenix 6 series that is comprised of several models. The new smartwatch series also includes the Fenix 6X Pro Solar, which is the company's first smartwatch support solar charging. But it is not just entirely solar, though.

Starting with those screens, the Garmin Fenix 6 itself has a 1.3-inch display, while the Garmin Fenix 6X has a 1.4-inch one and the Garmin Fenix 6S has a 1.2-inch screen. The 6S has a smaller 1.2-inch display.

That screen has 280 x 280px resolution and a sunlight visible transflective layer (using power-efficient memory-in-pixel tech). You can have turn-by-turn navigation, topographical and ski maps and more. The Fenix 6S comes equipped with heart rate and Pulse Ox sensors, and relies on the new PacePro feature with grade-adjusted guidance that varies with the course. Display sizes have also been significantly increased, while smartwatches across the range will feature V02 estimates, as well as adjustments for heat and altitude training. There is equally GPS, GLONASS and Galileo which are used to track your location.

The watchs titanium body measures 51mm in diameter and 14.9mm thick. Users also have the option of picking up a fenix 6 Sapphire edition, which outfits the watch with a more durable sapphire lens to keep the display safe. A barometer can provide weather alerts and theres an automatic accident detection. It rolls all of these capabilities into a feature called Body Battery, which considers things like heart rate variability and sleep quality to let users know when they should be resting or when they should be good for a workout. It is rated for 10ATM water resistance.

The watch comes witha generous 32GB of storage which you can fill with music from Spotify, Deezer and Amazon Music and listen on your Bluetooth headphones. You can also view notifications from your phone and use certain apps.

Everything the fēnix watches have always done well is still here of course, including mapping and Global Positioning System, tracking for a whole host of activities, support for navigating ski routes and golf courses, smartphone notifications on your wrist, on-board music storage (Spotify and Amazon Music are among the services supported), NFC payments through Garmin Pay and more. The devices also offers support for Wi-Fi connectivity. It should come in handy when you're out in the mountains trying to get a few more hours of battery out of your watch.
