Donald Trump’s personal assistant, Madeleine Westerhout, steps down”

According to NBC News, Westerhout resigned from her position late Thursday when the White House learned she had shared personal information about the president and his family during an off-the-record conversation with reporters earlier this month while they were covering his vacation at his golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey.

An anonymous White House adviser told Politico that Westerhout tried to act like a "de facto chief of staff" which "irked several White House officials and Cabinet secretaries who thought she should stick to her primary task of serving as the president's personal secretary with a desk just outside the Oval Office".

President Donald Trump's personal assistant Madeleine Westerhout was reportedly fired because she badmouthed Ivanka Trump and Tiffany Trump while talking to reporters.

The 28-year-old woman is now considered a "separated employee" and will not be allowed to return to the White House, the Times reported.

According to CBS, Westerhout had been drinking when she disclosed "private details" about the Trump family and "gossiped" about "TV news personalities" who were looking for access to the president.

She worked for former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, now a U.S. Senator from Utah - after he carpet-bagged his way into Utah to run for Senate there instead of in the state where he once served as governor, in the 2012 presidential election - and then later for the Republican National Committee.

She quickly became part of the President's inner circle. A reporter divulged details about the dinner to White House staff, the people said. She was often seen on camera escorting visitors through the Trump Tower lobby during the transition.

It was not immediately clear what the substance of the discussions about Trump's family were.

Who is Madeleine Westerhout, "the secret" to reaching Donald Trump?

"I was with her that night, I never saw her cry", the former official said.

"Madeleine is the key".

The New York Times was the first to report Westerhout's exit.

Despite her apparent dismay at Mr Trump's victory, she managed to land a reported $145,000 (£120,000) position as his gatekeeper.
