Belgian Grand Prix: Engine penalty shunts Albon to back of the grid

Belgian Grand Prix: Engine penalty shunts Albon to back of the grid”

With just eight rounds left of the season, Gasly will now try and not only save his future in F1 but will also want to get Toro Rosso the maximum amount of points to secure fifth place in the constructors championship, with the Italian based team four points ahead of Renault F1 Team.

Alex Albon acquitted himself well on his first day of running at Spa with Red Bull, but the team's new recruit is taking it one step at a time as he gets acquainted with his new environment.

While Red Bull's line-up for 2020 hasn't yet been finalised, Albon is clearly doing his utmost to impress his bosses.

"I'm just trying to take it slowly, get as many laps as I can and understand the vehicle as I'm still learning".

Horner told Sky Sports that Russian Daniil Kvyat, in consistent form this year with Toro Rosso, was a candidate for promotion, but they wanted to see how Albon coped with the role as a teammate to Verstappen in the senior outfit.

"But then the numbers for nerves are quite high as well".

Although he drives under the Thai flag, Albon was brought up and lives in England.

2019 Belgian GP

He finished sixth at last month's German Grand Prix, the first time he had driven a Formula One auto in the wet, to chalk up his best result so far.

But what F1 2019 expectations will be placed upon the young British-born driver, and how will he deal with Max Verstappen?

Regardless of where he qualifies on Saturday, Albon will launch his maiden race with Red Bull Racing from the back of the grid as a result of his car's switch to Honda's latest-spec engine.

"Just understanding the vehicle as it feels very different to the Toro Rosso".

"I've had a couple of weeks to rest and train to get ready for the nine upcoming races so I can give my best performance for the team".

"Whether I understand it or not is not going to change it", said the Frenchman, who has scored 63 points to Verstappen's 181 over the first 12 races of the year.
