Long-form film: Linklater to spend 20 years making new movie

Long-form film: Linklater to spend 20 years making new movie”

The story follows Broadway composer named Franklin Shepard who leaves NY behind to become a movie producer in Los Angeles.

The Before Sunrise and School of Rock director filmed the Oscar-nominated Boyhood over 12 years, resulting in a successful, acclaimed film that was nominated for six Oscars and earned Patricia Arquette a Best Supporting Actress win. The play and musical both take place over the course of 20 years and chronicle the lives of three best friends in showbusiness.

Principal photography has been completed for the first segment of the film.

According to Collider, director Richard Linklater will oversee the project, which will be shot over the same timespan as that featured in Sondheim's musical - 20 years. It started filming in 2002 and ended in October 2013.

From this point on, not a day goes by when Richard Linklater isn't thinking about Stephen Sondheim's musical Merrily We Roll Along.

The story begins at the height of his Hollywood fame and moves backwards in time, telling stories about his life. Feldstein is set to portray the theatre critic Mary Flynn, who is also a friend of Shepard's.

"'I don't enter this multiyear experience lightly, but it seems the best, perhaps the only way, to do this story justice on film", Linklater added.

Ben Platt and Beanie Feldstein were already announced to star in the movie and now Glee's Blake Jenner has also joined the cast!

The film is being produced by Linklater's long-time collaborator and Texas film institution Ginger Sledge (Parkland, Miss Congeniality), along with Jason Blum of Blumhouse Pictures and playwright Jonathan Marc Sherman.

For now, we'd better get used to waiting for this movie, because it sounds like it won't be released for a long, long time.

His latest, the adaptation of the best-selling novel "Where'd You Go Bernadette", stars Oscar victor Cate Blanchett and is now playing in theaters.
