Minister tweets picture of Nahid-1 satellite at Trump”

Iran's telecommunications minister suggested in a tweet on August 31 that an Iranian satellite was undamaged after a failed launch, which U.S. President Donald Trump had tweeted about hours earlier.

Commercially available satellite images by Planet Labs and Maxar Technologies showed a black plume of smoke rising above a launch pad on Thursday, with what appeared to be the charred remains of a rocket and its launch stand.

"The United States of America was not involved in the catastrophic accident during final launch preparations for the Safir SLV Launch at Semnan Launch Site One in Iran".

"I wish Iran best wishes and good luck in determining what happened at Site One", the president wrote.

Although the satellite has a surveillance camera that is capable of capturing and transmitting images, Iran's ICT minister reiterated that this is not its main function.

"I'm not supposed to see stuff this good. Not sure what the political objective of dissemination was", she said.

The tweeted photo appeared to get under the skin of the Iranians. In an elaborate and clandestine effort, the Times reported that the USA arranged for faulty parts to be delivered to Iran, which would ultimately create such incidents. Had nothing to do with us, ' he said.

But the US President is standing by his decision.

The photo released Friday by Trump appeared to be a once-classified surveillance photo from American intelligence agencies.

The minister had directly addressed USA president Donald Trump in a tweet after the American leader shared what appeared to be a surveillance photo of the aftermath of the blast.

According to the New York Times, Trump said it was well within his power to release the image.

Washington keeps a close eye on Iranian space activities as an indicator of advances in its nuclear and ballistic missiles programs.

Meanwhile, the French President has reportedly been pushing for a revival of the landmark 2015 Iran nuclear deal that was broken by President Trump previous year.

The explosion came just days after Trump said he'd be willing to meet Iranian President Hassan Rouhani under the "correct" circumstances, and following French President Emmanuel Macron's decision to invite Iran's foreign minister, Javad Zarif, to join other leaders on the sidelines of the Group of Seven summit in Biarritz last weekend. At the 4.5 per cent level, it is enough to help power Iran's Bushehr reactor, the country's only nuclear power plant. The warrant alleged an illegal scheme to access the USA financial system to finance Iran's sale of oil products to Syria. The satellite was Iran's first with foldable solar panels and was created to fly around the world in low orbit for some two-and-a-half months. Iran denied that its operations had been hit in Syria, according to the state news agency ILNA. The president did have a presidential daily briefing on his schedule Friday.
