The new laws took effect less than 24 hours after the fifth mass shooting in two years occurred in Texas, and the second in 28 days. He also said the legislation allowing gun owners to bring their weapons to church resulted from a shooting rampage in November 2017 that left 27 dead at a Baptist church in Sutherland Springs.

"Four of the deadliest mass shootings in the last decade have taken place in Texas", she told NBC News.

The new self-protection laws that are coming are not limited to guns. "I'm exhausted of the dying of the people of the state of Texas".

House Bill 302 allows residents to possess, carry, transport and store a gun or ammunition at their property, regardless of whether they own or rent it from someone else.

House Bill 1387 relaxes restrictions on the number of school marshals carrying guns while protecting public and private schools.

Senate Bill 535 clarifies the possession of firearms at churches, synagogues or other places of worship.

On Saturday, a gunman armed with an AR-type assault weapon went on a killing rampage in the Odessa-Midland area in western Texas, killing seven people and injuring at least 22 others before he was fatally shot outside a movie theater by police, officials said.

Property owners' associations and landlords will not be able to ban or restrict someone from having guns on their rental properties. Previously, there could only be one per 200 students or building.

HB 1143 prevents school districts from prohibited licensed gun owners, including district employees, from storing a gun or ammunition in a locked auto in the parking lot, provided neither are in plain view.

House Bill 2363 allows some foster homes to store firearms and ammunition in a safe and secure place for personal protection.

HB 121 provides a legal defense for licensed gun owners who unknowingly enter establishments with signage dictating guns are prohibited if the person promptly leaves after being asked.

During declared disasters, people without handgun licenses will be able to carry a gun.
