Texas shooting rampage leaves 7 dead, 19 wounded”

Authorities say the gunman in a West Texas rampage was sacked from his job and called both police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation before the mass shooting began.

The 36-year-old man who went on a shooting rampage Saturday in the Odessa-Midland area of Texas was sacked from his job at a trucking company hours before he indiscriminately opened fire on people.

Police report that the ages of those killed in the West Texas shooting rampage range from 15 to 57. He began shooting at them with what police described as an AR-type weapon and sped away.

No details were given as to what caused him to fail.

Gerke said there were still no answers pointing to a motive for the chaotic rampage, which began Saturday afternoon when Texas state troopers tried pulling over a gold auto on Interstate 20 for failing to signal a left turn.

He then peeled off, firing indiscriminately out of the truck as he floored it towards Odessa, authorities said.

HB 121 provides a legal defense for licensed gun owners who unknowingly enter establishments with signage dictating guns are prohibited if the person promptly leaves after being asked.

It was initially believed there were two shooters and Midland police had earlier said one suspect was driving a US Postal Service van, and another was believed to be in a gold and white Toyota truck.

Moving forward will be hard, Turner said "but with strength and a "whatever-it-takes" spirit we will show this community, our state and our nation, what it means to be West Texans".

The gunman was eventually taken down at Cinergy Movie Theater in Odessa.

Among those injured in the Odessa, Texas, shootings August 31, 2019 was 17-month-old Anderson Davis.

One wounded law enforcement officer is a trooper from the Department of Public Safety and the other two are from the Midland and Odessa police departments. All are in stable condition.

Hundreds of West Texas residents stood and bowed their heads together, reciting the Lord's Prayer at a vigil for those killed in Saturday's mass shooting.

A gunman led police on a chase of more than 10 miles (16 kilometers), spraying bullets at people along the way and leaving seven dead and almost two dozen injured.

The shooting happened hours before a series of firearm laws went into effect in Texas, where four of the 10 deadliest mass shootings in modern USA history have happened.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said a 17-month-old girl is recovering but faces surgery on Monday to remove shrapnel from her right chest.

At Sunday's press conference, Abbott said, "I have been to too many of these events".

President Donald Trump called the Odessa-Midland shooter "a very sick person", but said background checks on gun buyers would not have prevented recent USA gun violence. Too many Texans have lost their lives.

"The shooter drove within 30 feet of us and drove up that road", Ott said Sunday, pointing to one of the streets leading past the shopping center where his facility is located. "The status quo in Texas is unacceptable, and action is needed".
