Ariana Grande Is Suing Forever 21 for $10 Million”

"The campaign capitalized on the concurrent success of Ms. Grande's album Thank U, Next by publishing at least 30 unauthorized images and videos misappropriating Ms. Grande's name, image, likeness, and music in order to create the false perception of her endorsement".

Her lawsuit comes after a breakdown in talks over a joint marketing campaign.

Ariana Grande has hit Forever 21 with a $10 million lawsuit alleging the brand stole her image, court papers show.

Founded in 1984, Forever 21 said it recently had 815 stores in 57 countries.

The legal complaint was filed on Monday morning in USA federal court in Los Angeles, according to Reuters.

The document reads: "Rather than pay for that right as the law requires, the defendants simply stole it by launching a misleading campaign across its website and social media platforms primarily in January and February 2019". The Grammy victor has been breaking with tradition over her music releases and blasted the Recording Academy earlier this year after it disagreed on her performance at the Grammy Awards.

Grande's lawyers also argued that companies are willing to pay "enormous sums of money" for Grande to endorse their brands, with a single social media post commanding "several hundred thousand dollars" and her longer-term endorsement arrangements commanding fees "in the millions of dollars".

Billboard named her "Woman of the Year" in 2018 after she raised $29m for victims of the Manchester suicide bombing attack, the lawsuit said.

Grande boasts 163 million followers on Instagram and more than 65 million Twitter followers, and was worth approximately $48 million as of early July, according to Forbes.

Reuters reports that the 26-year-old singer is using the brand who have been using her name and likeness without permission to sell new merchandise.
