Isro conducts Chandrayaan-2 Moon landers deorbit manoeuvre successfully

Isro conducts Chandrayaan-2 Moon landers deorbit manoeuvre successfully”

After crossing a major milestone on 2 September, the landing module of the Indian Space Research Organisation's second mission to the moon, Chandrayaan 2, is expected to make its first in-orbit adjustment between 8.45-9.45 am IST.

After the separation, two deorbit manoeuvres of the lander to bring it further down will be carried out on September 3 and September 4 to prepare for its landing in the south polar region of the moon, where no country has gone so far.

From its current elliptical orbit at 119 x 127 km (nearest x farthest distance from the surface), the landing module will be lowered to an elliptical 109 x 120 km orbit around the moon. Chandrayaan-2 Orbiter continues to orbit the Moon in the existing orbit and both the Orbiter and Lander are healthy, IRSO added.

The next de-orbiting maneuver is scheduled on September 04, 2019 between 3:30-4:30 am.

The Pragyan rover is a 6-wheeled and AI-powered vehicle.

"Chandrayaan 2 will be the first spacecraft to land near the South pole of the moon and this is where NASA hopes to land astronaut in about five years from now". The final and fifth Lunar bound orbit maneuver for Chandrayaan 2 spacecraft was performed successfully 1 September at 6.21 pm.

Earlier on Monday, the Vikram Lander had successfully separated from the Chandrayaan-2 Orbiter.

The landing will make India only the fourth nation (after USA, Russia and China) to land a rover on the Moon and the first one to do so on the lunar south pole.

The success of this mission will make India only the "fourth nation after the United States, China, and Russian Federation to make a soft-landing on the lunar surface and the first nation to do so on the south pole of the lunar surface". The successful launch was carried out exactly a week after the ISRO had aborted the launch on July 15, just 56 minutes before the launch due to a "technical snag". When Will ISRO's GSLV-Mk III Reach Moon And What Will Happen After That?
