Ashes 2019: One change in England’s Playing XI for the 4th Test

Ashes 2019: One change in England’s Playing XI for the 4th Test”

England were staring down the barrel of match and series defeat at Headingley before the Sunday afternoon heroics of Ben Stokes snatched a miraculous victory and shifted the momentum.

Root also confirmed the switch of positions between Jason Roy and Joe Denly, with World Cup victor Roy dropping down to number four after struggling as a Test opener.

Smith, felled by a 92 miles-per-hour (148 kph) Jofra Archer bouncer in the drawn second Test at Lord´s, was 28 not out after adding an unbroken 70 for the third wicket with Labuschagne.

Smith, who has scored 378 runs, including two hundreds, at an average of 126 in three innings in the series, replaced the struggling Usman Khawaja.

The tourists, who have rotated their fast bowling line-up throughout the series, brought in left-arm quick Mitchell Starc for his first Test of this Ashes on what is expected to be the quickest pitch of the campaign, with Peter Siddle omitted.

"I think to play in an Ashes series is very exciting and he was extremely excited to get the chance to open the batting, but I think that he might be better suited for the middle order on the evidence we have seen over the last three games".

"I've personally put Headingley to one side and I think a lot of the boys have". The mistake's been made, we've moved on, we've learned from it, but that would've been the main thing I would've done differently. With Steve Smith coming back to the side, Australian batting lineup looks even stronger.

Smith said he was ready to return to Test duty, telling Sky Sports: "The series is well and truly alive".

"He got himself in a battle and I expect him to do that this week".

"I feel like that balances out our attack really well in these conditions. If I get some of that, then so be it".

"We want (Overton) to keep doing what he has been for Somerset", England captain Joe Root said.

"England captain Joe Root has also confirmed that Joe Denly will move to the top of the batting order to open with Rory Burns, with Jason Roy set to bat at No 4", European Central Bank said in their statement.
