Chanel Miller comes forward as victim in Brock Turner sex assault case”

The woman known in court records only as "Emily Doe" revealed herself as Chanel Miller, a writer and artist who received her bachelor's in literature from the College of Creative Studies at UC Santa Barbara.

"You don't know me but you've been inside me", she begins.

She was sexually assaulted by Turner when she was 22 years old after a frat party at Stanford University in January 2015.

Despite her anonymity during Turner's trial, Miller made headlines after BuzzFeed published the statement she read to Turner at the sentencing hearing, which was also read aloud on CNN and on the floor of the House of Representatives.

Miller's book about the assault and her life in the aftermath, "Know My Name", is scheduled to come out September 24, according to the New York Times. "You can not give me back the life I had".

Many people were enraged when her attacker Brock Turner was sentenced to only six months in jail in 2016 after his conviction for felony sexual assault.

The sexual assault victim of Stanford swimmer Brock Turner - known for years as "Emily Doe" - revealed her identity Wednesday ahead of releasing a memoir about the harrowing attack, according to a report.

The case made global headlines, igniting enough outrage against the judge to eventually oust him from the bench and enough interest in the "Emily Doe" story to drive a political movement-now manifest in the Enough is Enough Voter Project-to hold people in power accountable for sexual violence. Viking Books is the publisher of Know My Name, which editor-in-chief Andrea Schulz calls "one of the most important books that I've ever published". "[It could] change the culture that we live in and the assumptions we make about what survivors should be expected to go through to get justice". - In order to piece together the story, Miller read pages upon pages of court documents and witness testimonies from the case.

Miller's book details her assault and the aftermath of Turner's trail, and the path of her recovery since.
