Conservatives lose majority as Phillip Lee joins Lib Dems”

In a moment of high-drama in the House of Commons, Lee crossed the floor while Prime Minister Boris Johnson was delivering a statement on the recent G7 summit.

"The Liberal Democrats are growing".

He commented: "I am dismayed at what the Conservative Party has become, the role that it has played in feeding division and populism, in squandering a hard-won reputation for sound stewardship, and the blinkered direction in which it has set our country".

'I'm just going to mourn the one I thought I had. Sorry to disappoint you all'.

"The Liberal Democrats are delighted to announce that Bracknell MP Phillip Lee has joined the party", the Lib Dems said in a statement. Since 2010 I have had the huge privelege of representing the Bracknell Constituency in Parliament.

In a letter to Johnson, Lee resigned from his membership in the Conservative Party.

"That is why today I am joining Jo Swinson and the Liberal Democrats".

'I look forward to working with you to prevent a disastrous Brexit, and to fight for a fairer, more equal society'. This move now means the Government has lost its working majority in the Commons.

On Tuesday, less than two months from the date he set for the U.K.'s divorce from the European Union - with or without a deal on the terms of the breakup - Johnson suffered another significant blow to his fraying support in Parliament: Phillip Lee, a fellow Tory, defected from Johnson's Conservative Party in a dramatic scene in the House of Commons.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson says he is ready to call a snap election after lawmakers cleared the way for a vote on Wednesday to prevent the United Kingdom from leaving the European Union without a withdrawal agreement at the end of October. If Speaker John Bercow accepts allows the debate to take place on their Bill, this will force Johnson to delay the Brexit until 31 January in the absence of a new deal being approved by the parliament.
