ICT min. reacts to U.S. new sanctions on Iran's space program”

The comments by government spokesman Ali Rabiei were the first explanation offered by Iran for Thursday's explosion, which came ahead of a planned satellite launch by the Islamic Republic that the USA has criticized. Following the explosion, President Donald Trump tweeted a surveillance image depicting the apparent aftermath of the incident and declared that the USA had nothing to do with what transpired at the launch site.

A photograph was released by the president of U.S. on Friday showing the failed launch of an Iranian rocket and also said that the States had to do nothing with it. Before in the week satellite pictures from Labs had revealed that a new layering of blue paint got added to that launch pad of the satellite.

Meanwhile, the United States imposed sanctions on Iran's civilian space agency and two research organizations on Tuesday, saying they were being used to advance Tehran's ballistic missile programme. Iran's Minister dismissed the results of the satellite that actually got lost and also never commented on the claimed launch-pad eruption. "I wish Iran best wishes and good luck in determining what happened at Site One". A separate fire at the Imam Khomeini Space Center in February also killed three researchers, authorities said at the time.

The US has warned Iran against rocket launches, fearing the technology used to put satellites in orbit could help it develop the ballistic missile capability needed to launch nuclear warheads, though Tehran denies its activity is a cover for such development.

After two failed attempts this year, Iran is planning a new satellite launch for late September.

Pompeo said this Iranian effort to launch a space vehicle "underscores the urgency" of Iran's threat. The satellite itself was not damaged, however, as it had not been loaded, on what Tehran says was a test launch.

The tests have taken on new importance to the USA amid the maximalist approach to Iran taken by President Donald Trump's administration.

With the latest sanctions, the Trump administration can subject foreign companies and governments, including worldwide space cooperation organizations, to significant penalties if they have any involvement with the Iranian space agency.
