Pakistan will not use nuclear weapons first: Imran Khan

Pakistan will not use nuclear weapons first: Imran Khan”

India's assertion came after Ahluwalia met Jadhav at 12.30 pm IST for "two hours", a day after Pakistan granted consular access in line with a ruling by the International Court of Justice (ICJ). Tensions are running high in South Asia since India illegally annexed occupied Kashmir on August 5, sparking a strong reaction from Pakistan.

However, Pakistan Foreign Office said Khan's comments were being taken out of context and did not represent a change in Islamabad's nuclear policy.

Speaking about the worsening human rights situation, Qureshi informed them that the complete lockdown in the valley has now entered its fifth week, resulting in enormous suffering as people are unable to access hospitals, medicines and food supplies.

Tensions flared up between India and Pakistan earlier this year after a suicide bomber from Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Muhammed (JeM) killed 40 CRPF personnel in Kashmir's Pulwama district.

He was subsequently sentenced to death by a Pakistani military court after he confessed to his involvement in terrorist plots. As per reports, permission was also given for export of medicines to India.

The statement further said that External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar also spoke to Jadhav's mother and briefed her of Monday's developments.

The meeting, it said, took place "at 1200 hours (Pakistan time) and lasted for two hours, in the presence of officials of the Government of Pakistan". "In order to ensure transparency and in line with standard operating procedures, and as conveyed to the Indian side in advance, the access was recorded".

"The government remains committed to continuing to work towards ensuring that Shri Jadhav receives justice at the earliest and returns safely to India", Raveesh further said. It said Delhi would wait for a detailed report to determine the extent of conformity to the ICJ directives.

Separately, in an interview on Sunday, the Saudi ambassador to Pakistan, Nawaf bin Said Al-Malki, had expressed serious concerns on India's move to revoke the special status of occupied Kashmir - Article 370 - and turn it into a union territory.

Pakistan Foreign Office had announced over the weekend that it would grant India consular access on September 2.

Tension remains high in Kashmir, where security forces have used tear gas against stone-throwing protesters and the valley remains under lockdown after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's decision to withdraw special rights for the Muslim-majority state on August 5.
