Reading Harry Potter Books Risks Conjuring Evil Spirits, Says Catholic School”

The "actual spells" could conjure evil spirits, according to a report from The Guardian. Yet the furore over allegations of Satanism and devil worship has died down in recent years, and the choice to remove "Harry Potter" books from the St Edward's library appears to have garnered little support from the school community, according to WTVF. While J.K. Rowling shows that magic can be both good or evil, he and exorcists believe that this is a "clever deception".

Rebecca Hammel, the superintendent of schools for the Catholic Diocese of Nashville, told the Nashville Tennessean that Reehil has the last say on whether the books stay or go.

The Rev. Dan Reehil laid out his objections to the books in an email obtained by the Tennessean.

Reehil, a pastor at St. Edward Catholic School in Nashville, Tenn., was anxious about the heretical lessons that students could learn from the Harry Potter books, he wrote in an August 28 email to faculty members that was obtained by WTVF. The plot revolves around the life of Harry Potter and witches.

So while the students of St. Edwards can't visit the halls of Hogwarts at school, we can only hope they can travel to those wonderful, magical world of Harry Potter while reading at home. The Harry Potter books, he claimed, "promote a Machiavellian approach to achieving the ends they desire with whatever means are necessary". Seeing a group ban the books as a practical, albeit supernatural, safety hazard is definitely a first for this reporter.

The seven-book Harry Potter series written by British author J.K. Rowling, that was published starting in 1997, has always been a source of controversy, particularly among some religious institutions.

Regardless of Reehil's resolution to ban the books, Hammel claims that the varsity district doesn't like to interact in censorship. In 2006, the series topped the American Library Association's list of most-challenged books of the 21st century.

Now, there's another possibility here, and it's one I'd rather not believe to be true. They simply will not be capable of verify these books out from the library. He also said he consulted several exorcists in the USA and Rome before making his decision, so...good on him for doing research?
