"There are chemists who are saying it's the chemical being used as a solvent for the flavouring can be associated with lung damage".

Last week, MDHHS announced an investigation into six lung infections that were tied to e-cigarette and vape use. New York State's Health Department also issued an advisory to try and find a link to the illness.

The American Vaping Association condemned the action.

San Francisco Board of Supervisors passed a bill in June that prohibits the sale of e-cigarettes until they have been reviewed by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, which is expected to complete by 2020.

Investigators have not identified the specific brand or product causing the illnesses, which is accompanied by coughing, shortness of breath, chest pain, and in some cases vomiting and diarrhea.

In addition, the agencies vowed to share more information about reported cases of the lung illness with state officials.

Former FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb said, "We know some of this is associated with THC".

"That's an infringement on adults", he said. Their reasons included that E-Cigarettes are not approved by FDA, long-term health effects are unknown, and apparent marketing to children.
