In an interview with TASS Russian News Agency, Prime Minister Modi said that if technologies are transferred, the production of weapons and other military equipment would be cheap in India.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Russia Wednesday on a two-day visit during which he will hold summit talks with President Vladimir Putin and attend the Eastern Economic Forum.

According to Prime Minister Modi, both India and Russian Federation are not interested in only "the relations between customer and seller of military technologies", adding that the governments of both the countries are "sure about the model of transferring technologies".

In this context, the statement said they agreed to speed up preparations for the signing of the India-Russia Intergovernmental Agreement on Promotion and Mutual Protection of Investments.

In this context, he also mentioned Modi's visit to the Zvezda ship-building facility here. The PM also interacted with the management and workers of the shipyard. President Putin and PM Modi last met in June at the SCO summit. "Newer areas of collaboration such as shipbuilding offer opportunities for diversifying the strong India- Russia economic ties", Kumar tweeted. "Over the next 2 days, bilateral meeting with President Putin, participation at Eastern Economic Forum & meetings with other world leaders on the agenda". We clearly understand that President Putin thinks so.

"The India-Russia friendship is not restricted to their respective capital cities".

In the summit talks, the two leaders are expected to discuss a number of key regional issues, including the Afghan peace process and situation in the Gulf region.

"I look forward to discussing with my friend President Putin the entire gamut of our bilateral partnership as well as regional and global issues of mutual interest", the prime minister said in his departure statement in New Delhi.

Russian President Vladimir Putin had in April this year signed the decree to award the Indian Prime Minister.

"We (India and Russia) both are against outside influence in the internal matters of any nation", Modi stressed in an apparent reference to Pakistan's diabolic attempts of internationalizing the Kashmir issue.

Underlining the cooperation in technical and military areas, Mr. Putin said, "We are successfully implementing our bilateral programme on military and technical cooperation up to 2020".
