PM's brother quits as Tory MP and minister

PM's brother quits as Tory MP and minister”

Ahead of a speech in northern England where the prime minister was expected to begin an informal election campaign, Jo Johnson resigned as a junior business minister and said he was stepping down as a lawmaker for their Conservative Party. "But frankly I can not see another way", Johnson said at a police event in Wakefield.

He argued it was "the only way to get this thing [Brexit] moving". Boris Johnson played a key cheerleading role in the 2016 Brexit referendum, helping convince a slight majority of the country to vote in favor of splitting from the bloc.

Boris Johnson has warned Donald Trump's administration the NHS is "not on the table" during any post-Brexit trade deal with the US.

Although Mr. Corbyn has said the party would back an early election once the no-deal legislation was given royal assent, many of his MPs want to hold off on a vote until after October 31 in order to ensure that the country doesn't crash out of the EU.

During a bad-tempered debate in the parliament, Johnson was caught yelling at the opposition leader: "Call an election, you great big girl's blouse" to the Labour leader.

Conservative MP Philip Lee also defected on Tuesday, joining the Liberal Democrats in the House of Commons as the prime minister was speaking and leaving Johnson with a minority. Johnson failed to gain the required two-thirds majority in Wednesday's vote, which came shortly after MPs approved a bill created to force him to seek a further delay to Brexit.

The speech marked the latest salvo in a continuing standoff between Mr. Johnson and a "rebel alliance" of opposition and Conservative members of Parliament who have pledged to prevent the country from leaving the European Union on Halloween without a withdrawal agreement.

Johnson's determination to lead Britain out of the European Union on October 31 faces strong opposition from lawmakers, including members of his own Conservative Party who oppose a no-deal Brexit.

On Wednesday, Johnson asked Parliament to back an October 15 election - but Parliament said no, with opposition parties either voting against him or abstaining.

"The problem that we had is that we couldn't determine the date of the election", Labour MP John McDonnell told the BBC on Thursday in explaining why the party has yet to agree on an election date.

There are, however, several other ways of trying to trigger an election.

"The only way to break the deadlock in Parliament, legitimize the outcome, and allow us all to talk about something else, is to give the people the final say", the group says.

Jo Johnson had been a member of Parliament for Orpington, a district on the southeast of London, since 2010.

Mr Pence said he had spoken to Mr Trump - who he called a "friend" of the PM's - on Thursday morning and that the U.S. president had emphasised he was "ready, willing and able" to strike a free trade deal "immediately" after the United Kingdom had left the European Union.

Boris Johnson has been dealt another major blow with his brother, MP Jo Johnson, announcing he is quitting politics because he is "torn between family loyalty and the national interest".
