India Face the Toughest Test against Asian Champions Qatar

India Face the Toughest Test against Asian Champions Qatar”

Still licking their wounds after succumbing to a gut-wrenching, demoralising 1-2 defeat to Oman at home in their 2022 World Cup qualifiers campaign opener, India looks to pick up the pieces as they face Qatar in their second fixture at the Jassim bin Hamad Stadium in Doha on Wednesday.

The Blue Tigers had to withstand tremendous pressure from the home side throughout the ninety minutes but they held firm at the back to open their account in Group E.

He single-handedly stopped the Qataris from scoring any goal in the Group E match which will be remembered for long by the Indians.

Gurpreet Singh Sandhu helped India earn a point with his superb goalkeeping as they played against Qatar in the World Cup 2022 qualifying match.

AFC Asian Cup 2019 champions and ranked number 62 in the world, Qatar and 103-ranked India ended tonight's match in a draw.

"Hope to see the action live next March in #KalingaStadium, the likely venue for the India vs Qatar match", Director of Sports and Youth Services Department, Vineel Krishna, tweeted on Tuesday.

The premier stadium has already played host to the Men's Hockey World Cup, Asian Athletics Championship and other global championships.

The Bengaluru FC custodian, who was recently awarded the Arjuna award, made a string of saves to keep the hosts at bay for the entire duration of the match.Qatar had 27 shots on target and yet failed to beat Gurpreet in India's goal as the team under Croatian coach Igor Stimac celebrated the draw like a victory at the final whistle with Spain and former FC Barcelona great Xavi Hernandez in attendance. "There was excitement in front of both goals, of course". All credits to my players, I am very proud of my players. Qatar mostly had to go for strikes from far off.

"Qatar had more chances than us. They defended with such concentration throughout, which really proves their fitness capacity", the 52-year old coach said. "We know that they are a good team and we respect them", said defender Pedro Miguel. We played against Qatar and we made space for ourselves even in the last minutes.

India will play Bangladesh in their next World Cup qualifying match in Kolkata on October 15 and the coach expects a full house at the mecca of Indian football.
