LG unveils first OLED TVs to support Nvidia G-Sync

LG unveils first OLED TVs to support Nvidia G-Sync”

An upcoming update for LG's 2019 4K 55- to 75-inch OLED TVs will add Nvidia G-Sync support, the TV maker said Tuesday in a statement. Although the models don't comprise G-Sync hardware, LG has worked with Nvidia to get every set licensed through Nvidia's G-Sync Compatible testing.

Those features mean LG's TVs could've benefited from G-Sync Ultimate, which was made specifically to support HDR content and high-resolution monitors, but the company would've had to manufacture the devices with G-Sync in mind and with Nvidia's proprietary processor for that to happen.

LG's 2019 TVs already supported variable refresh charges over HDMI 2.1 and it can be used with Xbox One X.

The new firmware update will be compatible with LG 2019 OLED TVs including both the E9 and C9 series TVs in 55, 65, and 77 inches.

It's unclear precisely what you'll need on the PC end, however.

Nvidia revealed it was partnering with various companies to create Big Format Gaming Displays previous year, but this is the first time an OLED TV has been released with Nvidia G-Sync compatibility. This suggests that variable refresh rate over HDMI might be limited to Nvidia's latest RTX generation of GPUs. Gamers can play compatible titles in dynamic HDR10 or Dolby Vision (at up to 120 frames per second for Full HD content) taking advantage of HDMI 2.1 specifications such as auto low latency mode (ALLM), enhanced audio return channel (eARC) and variable refresh rate (VRR).

Coming to audio, LG OLED TVs come equipped with cinematic audio formats including Dolby Atmos and Dolby TrueHD. The company claims that these technologies can make the gameplay experience even more immersive.

Something to look forward to: LG has announced that it's teamed up with Nvidia to bring G-Sync support to its 2019 OLED TVs. For current owners of the 4k OLED TV owners, the firmware will arrive via patch notes whereas new users will get it from the very moment they purchase it.
