Valencia Fires Head Coach Marcelino Three Games Into Season

Valencia Fires Head Coach Marcelino Three Games Into Season”

The former Sevilla and Villarreal coach went on to win the Copa del Rey with the club last season, bringing them their first major trophy for 11 years.

Valencia fired Marcelino Garcia Toral on Wednesday, three matches into the league campaign, making him the first La Liga coach to be dismissed this season.

La Liga fantasy: Sign up now!

In an official statement, the club said: "Valencia CF announced on Wednesday to Marcelino García Toral his dismissal as coach of the first team".

'The club would like to thank him for his work and dedication during his time at our entity and wish him success for the future'.

The owner has been battling with the club's sporting side for months as Lim has looked for more control over player transfers and sporting decisions.

It appeared that the differences had been resolved.

Valencia manager Marcelino has been officially sacked from his post at Mestalla with Albert Celades expected to be named as his replacement imminently.

Valencia have taken four points from three games this term but it was reported in Spain that Lim called club president Anil Murthy for an emergency meeting in Singapore on Wednesday after deciding to sack Marcelino.

Valencia followed up that announcement with the confirmation former Spain Under-21 head coach and ex-Real Madrid assistant Celades had been appointed.

Valencia face Chelsea in their opening game of the Champions League on Tuesday after a repeat of last season's Copa del Rey final on Saturday when they play Barcelona.
