Ellen DeGeneres defends George W. Bush friendship after Cowboys game backlash

Ellen DeGeneres defends George W. Bush friendship after Cowboys game backlash”

DeGeneres used her Twitter account to address the controversy, tweeting a video of her nearly 4 minute-long monologue talking about it on her show.

Ellen DeGeneres will not be Twitter-shamed for who she spends time with.

DeGeneres and her wife, Portia de Rossi, were invited to the game by Charlotte Jones, the daughter of Cowboys owner Jerry Jones. But then we listened to what Ellen had to say about the viral incident, and why people should take a page from her (and George W.'s) kindness playbook.

"As I always say with the mob, it's like a wildfire, if you pour gasoline on it, it'll eventually get you as well", Jones said. While in the suite, she took a video of the famous face next to her: former President Bush.

"The referees, you guys, the referees", she told her laughing audience. They sat in Jones's box, and DeGeneres ended up seated next to former President Bush. "I'm not talking about politics". I was rooting for the Packers and get this-everybody in the Cowboys suite was rooting for the cowboys. I like Ellen, I love that she's big about charities, she gives a lot to the community, I think that's all great. "During the game, they showed a shot of George and me laughing together, so people were upset", she continues, as the image pops up on screen. "They thought, 'Why is a gay Hollywood liberal sitting next to a conservative Republican president?' Didn't even notice I'm holding the brand new iPhone 11", she quipped. "Even people who are already playing Christmas music - I mean seriously, there's no excuse for that, but I'm kind to them". And they did what people do when they're mad. they tweet'.

"Here's the thing. I'm friends with George Bush", Ellen said.

The audience cheered for the positivity, and DeGeneres explained she's friends with many people who don't share the same beliefs.

"When [it is] people that she knows, she comes to their defense, but if it were someone else, she would've criticized him and I think that's something we should shun in America".

"But just because I don't agree with someone on everything doesn't mean I'm not going to be friends with them", DeGeneres said, to more applause.

The host of Ellen said people had "forgotten it's OK that we're all different", and refused to avoid being friends with people who had different views to her. I mean be kind to everyone.

The host got a round of applause from her studio audience - and her almost 4-minute monologue received 4 million views on Twitter before it even aired on TV.
