Sen. Johnson defends Pres. Trump, skeptical of Federal Bureau of Investigation and Central Intelligence Agency”

Johnson said he asked the president about allegations that military aid was being withheld from Ukraine as Trump asked the country's leader to investigate former Vice PresidentJoe BidenJoe BidenTrump criticizes supposed second whistleblower North Korea missile test raises fears of new capabilities Trump told House Republicans that he made Ukraine call because of Perry: Report MORE, a leading 2020 candidate. "I don't want to see those two things combined", Johnson told the Wall Street Journal. "My reaction was: Oh, God".

Separately, Johnson told reporters in Sheboygan that Trump had blocked his suggestion that he carry a message to Ukraine's president assuring him that US military aid was on the way. I don't trust Pe-Peter Strzok. Johnson said the president was looking at withholding aid because he wanted to know "what happened in 2016". I have never in my lifetime seen a president, after being elected, not having some measure of well-wishes from his opponents. You know, I'm 64 years old. Seems that a not very bright Chuck just wasn't getting the answers he was looking for in order to make me look as bad as possible. Can we please answer the question that I asked you, instead of trying to make Donald Trump feel better here that you're not criticizing him?! And so what President Trump's had to endure, a false accusation - by the way, you've got John Brennan on - you ought to ask Director Brennan what did Peter Strzok mean when he texted Lisa Page on December 15th, 2016?

In a contentious interview on NBC News' "Meet The Press", Johnson argued there was still much to learn about bias of Federal Bureau of Investigation agent Peter Strzok and others against Trump ahead of the election - but was pressed on Trump's reported linking almost $400 million in military aid to Ukraine's probe.

Todd wants to know why Johnson was unhappy with that.

"I have no idea why ... a Fox News conspiracy propaganda stuff is popping up on here", the host said.

"That interview was just a giant green light to the president of the United States to continue to solicit foreign interference in US elections", Murphy said of Johnson.

In a heated exchange on Sunday's "Meet the Press" program, Johnson expressed distrust for the Central Intelligence Agency and FBI because they would not carry out investigations into those allegations and instead focused on alleged ties between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported that Trump blocked Johnson in August from telling Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky that USA aid was on its way, at the same time that the president was appealing to Zelensky to investigate his potential 2020 contender Joe Biden.

"Because I didn't want those connected", Johnson responded. "But here's the salient point, why I came forward". Who set him up?
