U.S. boxing trainer suffers ´horrible attack´ during Flint weigh

U.S. boxing trainer suffers ´horrible attack´ during Flint weigh”

It was one of three fights out of eight that was supposed to be aired by Showtime (9 p.m. ET Saturday), but now according to ESPN.com, there will only be two. Habazin and Claressa Shields are scheduled to fight Saturday for the WBO and WBC super welterweight championships.

The rest of the event will proceed as scheduled. Claressa Shields denied those claims, saying it was not her brother who attacked the trainer from behind.

Bashir was knocked unconscious for approximately 20 minutes, witnesses told ESPN, before being taken out on a stretcher and brought to McLaren Medical Center.

When it was over, Ali was hit in the back of the head by a man in the crowd.

Suddenly a male who Shields insisted wasn't part of her entourage got involved and punched Bashir Ali out cold and medics rushed to the scene as the elderly victim was bleeding heavily from the mouth. Bashir is a veteran boxing trainer and has worked with the likes of Wladimir Klitschko in the past. Fighters on the undercard attended the delayed weigh-in, which was open to the public.

It was supposed to be a celebration of boxing, and a return of the two-time Olympic champion, Claressa Shields to her hometown as a pro boxer. Mark Taffet, Shields' manager, said Bashir had surgery to fix some damage to his teeth, and after returning home, he's expected to have a second operation for his jaw.

Showtime will televise the following fights from Flint: heavyweight Jermaine Franklin (19-0) of Saginaw, Michigan, against Pavel Sour (11-1) of the Czech Republic; and welterweight Jaron Ennis (23-0) of Philadelphia against Demian Daniel Fernandez (12-1) of Argentina. After beating Hammer, she's taking this fight at 154 pounds, trying to become a three-division champion. "He needs to be there when you fight for the world title, so I definitely understand that", Shields said.

"I really don't want to talk before the fight a lot, because I don't want to waste my energy, but I'll just say, I'm really happy to see you, how happy you are right now, but I'm sorry", Habazin said, before her last few words were drowned out by shouts from some members of the crowd.
