Red Sox pitching coach Dana LeVangie reassigned, will become pro scout”

Brian Bannister will no longer serve as Assistant Pitching Coach, but will continue as Vice President, Pitching Development, focusing on pitcher development programs, primarily in the minor leagues.

The Red Sox have made the first of many changes this offseason, removing Dana LeVangie from his role as the team's pitching coach.

Advance scouting head Steve Langone will not return in his current capacity and has accepted a pro scouting position with the team.

LeVangie took over as Red Sox pitching coach in November 2017, and he and Bannister oversaw a Boston rotation that pitched very well in 2018 en route to a World Series title. Injuries played a big role, but overall, the pitching staff had a 4.70 ERA, 19th in the major leagues.

It isn't entirely clear whether the Red Sox are contemplating any further changes to the staff, though it seems reasonable to presume that they'll retain the remaining coaches. The Red Sox likely face three hires in the upcoming weeks, needing to find a pitching coach, assistant pitching coach and assistant hitting coach.

Before his stint as pitching coach, LeVangie was bullpen coach for five years.
