Tourists to return to Kashmir, advisory lifted

Tourists to return to Kashmir, advisory lifted”

This will be done with effect from October 10.

The Jammu and Kashmir administration on Monday chose to lift the home department's advisory asking all tourists to leave the Valley immediately.

But underlining the continued security risks after the state government issued its advisory late on Monday, police said on Tuesday that two militants belonging to Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) had been killed.

Hours before India's illegal and unilateral August 5 move, thousands of security personnel descended upon the scenic valley to enforce a draconian crackdown, with telephone and internet being severed and plunging occupied Kashmir into a communications black hole.

Though the world community has mostly backed India on the issue of Kashmir and the government's decision to abrogate Article 370 to strip the state of its special status, there is growing impatience with regard to the prolonged security curbs in the state. The government also detained hundreds of political activists, including former chief ministers Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti. The Indian government accused the group of conducting the deadly November 2008 assault in Mumbai that killed almost 200 people and left more than 300 injured. "The meeting was also attended by the Principal Secretaries of Planning and Housing & Urban Development Department", Department of Information and Public Relations, Govt of Jammu and Kashmir tweeted.

The meetings initially focused on reviewing the security scenario after imposition of restrictions in the wake of constitutional changes, the spokesman said.

Last week, the Centre had announced that Block Development Council (BDC) elections in Jammu and Kashmir will take place on October 24. "The governor was informed that there is active interest in the BDC elections and most of the seats of chairpersons of BDCs would be filled..."

The Governor was also briefed about the progress in apple procurement which has crossed 850 tonnes and worth Rs 3.25 crores.
