Harley-Davidson halts electric motorcycle production after discovering glitch”

Harley-Davidson Inc HOG.N said on Monday it has stopped production and deliveries of its first electric motorcycle after discovering a glitch in the final quality checks. "Harley reportedly said that it had stopped production after discovering a "non-standard" condition".

The company said it did not initially have a new date for re-starting production.

Unveiled in 2014, the LiveWire sold for around US$30,000 in North America and Western Europe, according to the Harley-Davidson website.

The company has ambitious plans to expand its product portfolio with its "More Roads to Harley-Davidson" strategy.

Although those who already own one have been told that the bikes are still safe to ride, Harley-Davidson asked both customers and dealers not to recharge them in outlets at home.

Additional testing to diagnose and rectify the issue has begun but there is no word from the manufacturer as to when the the production will resume. The bike also has a 4.3-inch TFT display that features Bluetooth connectivity.

The Harley-Davidson LiveWire is making the headlines yet again.

The first electric vehicle from the American brand features a 15.5 kWh battery pack with fast charging capabilities, and it is claimed to recharge to 80% in just 40 minutes (full recharge takes an hour) through a DC fast charger. Electronic aids come in the form of a six-axis IMU-assisted ABS and traction-control system, along with seven riding modes.
